
The Challenge
A technology company developing internal ERP modules was recording developer salaries in COGS, artificially depressing gross margin and weakening its valuation ahead of a sale.
What I Did
I reclassified these salaries as R&D expenses, aligning the P&L with GAAP and accurately reflecting the future‑revenue nature of the work.
The Result
Gross margin improved materially, strengthening the company’s valuation narrative and contributing to a higher sale price.
